Tutorial: Stamped Ornaments

As promised, I've got a tutorial for you on how I stamped my ornaments which were featured in my manicure this morning. This tutorial assumes that you are familiar with stamping and does not attempt to explain the details involved in that process...

Supplies:
  • Various nail studs
  • Polish for painting the studs
  • Polish for stamping + desired stamping plate
Steps:

Instructions:
  1. Start by placing the metal stud on a piece of scotch tape which is lying with the sticky side up. This helps hold the stud in place while you are working with it. I bent a bit of the tape back to attach it to a piece of paper and hold it in place as well (see image below).
  2. Paint the nail stud using nail polish and allow it to dry completely. Shown here is OPI In My Santa Suit
  3. Pick up the desired image into stamper. Preferably you are using a soft, squishy stamper for this. Bundle Monster plate BM-318 used for this ornament stamp.
Note: You don't have to use an image of an ornament. You can stamp any pattern of your choice. I just happened to find one that fit the stud perfectly
  4. Align the nail stud (still attached to sticky tape) with the image on your stamper. Press the stud into the stamper to transfer the image. Having the nail stud on clear tape allows you to easily align the desired pattern if you are using a small image such as I did or if you are targeting a specific spot on a larger image.
  5. Your 'ornament' should now be stamped and ready to use in your manicure!

When I created my manicure, I lined up a bunch of studs on tape so I could paint them all at once and allow them to dry...

A few of them left with no stamping and the rest I stamped with various patterns. For the specifics on what was used for the different studs, please see my previous post...

I hope you enjoyed this quick tutorial!
Please let me know what you think of it!

P.S. I would like to extend my thanks for inspiration once again to the following ladies... Beaching Nails for the idea of using nail studs for ornaments, Drama Queen Nails for the idea that studs can be painted with polish and Eeek! Nail Polish! for the idea of stamping onto rhinestones. <3

Thanks for looking!

  8. Brilliant! I don't much care for blank studs, but this makes them little ornaments, so I say YES!
