OPI Spotlight on Glitter Collection Swatches and Review.

Good morning everyone! Today I would like to share with you swatches of the OPI Spotlight on Glitter collection which features six sparkly toppers released earlier this year. I swatches these glitter bombs over shades from the OPI Brazil collection. Four of the shades appear to be re-released from previous collections so if you missed them the first time around, now would be a great time to snag them. All are a fun and unique way to add lots of sparkle to your manicure!...

Blush Hour (layered over OPI Don't Bossa Nova Me Around)
A mix of pink, lavender and fuchsia hex glitter mixed with smaller silver and purple glitter in a slightly pink tinted base. I used one generous coat over OPI Don't Bossa Nova Me Around. There was plenty of glitter loaded in each brush stroke and it distributed easily over the nail. The tinted base gave my nude under-polish an overall pink look. Swatches are with a top coat...

I originally thought that this polish is very topcoat hungry. It wasn't until I was reviewing these swatches up close that I realized it is filled with small transparent specks that gave it the lumpy look... I decided to swatch it with no top coat to see what happens...

For these swatches I used two coats of the glitter with no base color. The second coat I had to dab on because it was difficult to just brush it on evenly. The polish dried with a very gritty texture due to the large glitter (similar to the latest Zoya PixieDust shades). No top coat in these swatches...

The small clear specks that I noticed in my initial swatches with a top coat, dried to white gritty texture all over the nail. Although this is not listed as a textured polish in any of the press releases, I would treat it as such. For future wear, I would layer it over a base and skip the top coat to have a fun textured glitter look...

Chasing Rainbows (layered over OPI AmazON...AmazOFF)
A clear base loaded with glitter in different colors and sizes. It contains everything from silver to fuchsia, orange, light blue and green. I brushed/dabbed one generous coat over my base color of OPI AmazON...AmazOFF and topped it off with a clear coat. Each brush stroke is loaded with glitter. This seems to be a re-release of OPI Rainbow Connection from the Muppets collection of 2011. It was a huge hit back then and I've seen it sold at crazy prices online, so if it was something you've wanted to get your hands on, this is the polish for you...

Desperately Seeking Sequins (layered over OPI Red Hot Rio)
A clear base filled with hex, bar and micro holographic silver glitter. This is so gorgeous in reality, the photos don't do the holographic sparkle any justice. I applied one generous coat over the red base of OPI Red Hot Rio. I believe this is a re-release of OPI Which is Witch? from the Oz The Great and Powerful collection from last year. I couldn't stop raving about this beauty last year and I'm still head over heels in love with it this year. Swatches are with a top coat...

I Reached My Gold! (layered over OPI OPI Scores a Goal!)
A clear base filled with large hex gold glitter and silver holographic hex glitter in two smaller sizes. I dabbed one coat over my base color of OPI OPI Scores a Goal!. There is a lot of hex glitter in this bottle and it is easy to gets lots of them out onto the brush. No fishing for glitter required. The larger hex glitter does curl (it has been nicknamed 'taco' glitter for that reason). I used this glitter for my St. Patrick's Day manicure and got lots of compliments on it. I must admit that although I absolutely love the look of the curling glitter and they way it reflects light, after wearing it for a full day, it drove me absolutely bonkers to feel it on my nails. This appears to be a re-release of the OPI When Monkeys Fly! from the Oz The Great and Powerful collection from last year. Funny thing though, when I pulled out my bottle of When Monkeys Fly! to compare the two, the large hex glitter in it was flat!! Sometime during the course of last year, it flattened out. I suspect the glitter in I Reached My Gold! will also flatten out over time. Craziness! Swatches here are with a top coat...

Rose of Light (layered over OPI Live.Love.Carnaval)
A clear base filled with holographic square glitter and rose gold micro glitter. I applied one generous coat over my base color of OPI Live.Love.Carnaval. It is easy to apply and has great distribution of glitter over the nail. This is unlike any other glitter that I have and it is beautiful! Swatches are with a top coat...

You Pink Too Much (layered over OPI I São Paulo Over There)
A clear base with pink hex glitter and micro holographic glitter. Here again the photos don't do justice the the holo sparkle of this polish. I applied generous coat over my base color of OPI I São Paulo Over There. It applied easily with lots of glitter in each brush stroke. This seems to be a re-release of OPI Pink Yet Lavender from the Mariah Carey collection of early 2013. It is really a gorgeous topper. Swatches are with a top coat...

Overall, I think this is a great collection of glitters. It features some of the past favorites and adds a couple of new shades to the mix as well!

Which ones are you favorite? I'd love to know what you think so leave me a comment below!

Thanks for looking!

  1. They are all so pretty! Too bad about those tacos, though!

  2. They are all so sweet! About tacos glitters, don't they catch the hair? I used to always go hand in my hair, and I'm afraid it's grip, as with large rhinestones

  3. I'm not too thrilled from this collection actually.... But I do love your swatches ^_^
