The Bonded Look!

Have you seen the new James Bond movie yet? If you have, you might have noticed the double sided stiletto manicure worn by actress Bérénice Marlohe which features two OPI shades from the Skyfall collection released in honor of the film. OPI is calling the manicure "The Bonded Look". I have yet to see the movie, so please don't spoil it for me, but I really couldn't wait to try the manicure...

In the movie the manicure features OPI Skyfall, the namesake of the collection as polish on top of the nails and OPI Goldeneye underneath. I decided to be a rebel and instead of Skyfall, I used OPI Casino Royale, from the same collection, as my top color. I thought the rich mulberry purple would look great with the gold. For the gold, I behaved myself and used Goldeneye...

I love double sided polish look and have worn it a few times for my Louboutin manicures here and here. It is like a little hidden surprise that is just for me since my nails are not long enough to make it obvious, but long enough to pull it off. This is the first time I've tried gold instead of red underneath and I love it. The gold flakes of Goldeneye create a great foil effect underneath the nail. That being said, it was definitely more tricky working with the gold flakes instead of a solid cream polish. The flakes wanted to pool together in a big puddle under the nail. It took three coats to get them where I wanted them, but worth it in the end...

Here is the OPI promo for the look if you have not seen it floating around yet. This comes directly from the OPI Skyfall Collection Pinterest board...

What do you think of this look? Have you tried painting the underside of your nails yet?

I'm glad I hurried up and tried this look since I managed to break a nail at work yesterday...

Thanks for looking!
Anutka :)

  1. This is very pretty! I actually saw the nails in the OPI promo pictures. My nails aren't long enough to do that, and even if they were, I wouldn't know how to apply the polish without making a mess! lol

I did it with blue on the nails and red underneath. I called it Louboutin manicure ;)

  5. I can't wait until my nails are long enough to try this! I just bought Goldeneye and I love it, but I can imagine it being a paint to apply underneath your nails.

  6. I love these types of manis and you make it look so amazing! My nails are actually long enough to try this but I'm terrified of it being too hard to remove later. I keep picturing my naked nail looking all red underneath (if it was a true Louboutin mani) :S.

  9. I actually just bought the OPI set you show up there at Ulta....it was the ONLY Skyfall polishes left, WTF?!? Anyways, I've always wanted to do this style of mani before, but I HATE cleaning polish from under my nails, then it gets all stuck between the skin under my nails....yuck! Maybe one day I will try it!

I was just going to ask when your nails got so uber long! But too bad about the break! I broke my thumb nail today, so everybody got cut down. Luckily my nails grow super fast.

  10. @Natalia, Thank you so much! I'm trying to put together a tutorial to show I do this with less mess. Maybe it will help :)

@Little Miss Nailpolish, Yes, I've done a couple of Louboutin manicures as well. They are so fun! :)

@AppleliciousMe, thank you so much! I'm glad you like it.

@Gosia, thank you! I really like the gold underneath, especially this foil one. Looks very rich :)

@maRyya, Thank you! I hope you try it now that you know :)

@marioshutup, I hope you get to try it soon! It is beautiful. A bit tricky to work with the flakes, but worth it in the end :)

@Kat, It depends on the polish you use. I find that a typical red cream is fairly easy to remove from underneath. These gold flecks were a bit more difficult :)

@Vicky, thank you so much! I'm so glad you like it :)

@Jamie, I will hopefully see the movie this weekend so I can check out the nails too. Looking forward to it :)

@Angie, Really? Wow! This collection was a big hit it seems. Maybe they will restock again.
I have not had too much trouble with removing the polish from underneath, especially if it is a cream or shimmer. These flakes were a bit trickier for sure...

The nails didn't break to bad, just a bit. I was going to trim them anyways since this length is about as long as I can handle them before they get in the way (and break). Sorry about your break too!
