Some of you noticed the rather nasty looking black squares all over my blog yesterday where pretty photos should have been. I'm sorry to say that they will be there for a while longer. You see, Google and I got into a bit of a battle and it won. I might be a sore looser in this case, but it is not at all a graceful winner. Not only did it defeat me, but it jumped up and down, sang a victory song and quite possibly even did a body slam...
The result is the loss of six months worth of photos. If you look at the snapshot view of my blog you can see each post represented as a square. The squares with actual photos are ones I have gone through one by one and re-uploaded the photos. That took about three hours yesterday. The black squares are all the ones still left to redo...
If all the photos were not watermarked with my .blogspot URL, I would move the blog to a different provider without so much as a second though, but sadly that it is not that easy.
Looking at this image right here, I feel quite defeated and wondering if it wouldn't be easier to just shut this blog down...
Anutka :(
So why did this happen? Aren't all the photos on blogger saved on another site...can't quite remember the name right now.... that would SUCK!
ReplyDeletejust googled it...Picasa....did you go directly to the Picasa site and see if they are there???
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible! I can't even imagine how irritating and painful it is to see all that hard work gone!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and your work and I'd hate to see you close your blog
Really sorry for you!
ReplyDeleteNoooo!!! Don't shut the blog down! We love you!
ReplyDeleteOh man, that really sucks. I didn't know that google had these glitches. Should I be worried about the content on my blog too?
ReplyDeleteOMG! How awful!! >:-(
ReplyDeletePoor you...
This must be a nightmare...
Hope all works out in the end!
Please don't give up!
ReplyDeleteOh no! What exactly happened? Take your time putting them back up in bits. Your readers understand.
ReplyDeleteDon't give up and please keep go on blogging and making your wonderful manicures! :-)
ReplyDeletePlease don't go away!!!!! I love your blog =]
ReplyDeleteoh sweetheart, gutted for you. Don't lose faith, we love you, want you and need you. Stay strong xxx
ReplyDeleteYeah, exactly how did this happen? All your photos should have been on Picasa Web Albums in a album called Blogger photos. I'm sorry that this has happened to you, I know some Google employees on G+ who could get you in touch with someone in the Blogger/Picasa department possibly to help you
ReplyDeleteomg I'm so sorry to hear that! I can understand how you feel but, please, don't lose faith!! <3
ReplyDeleteoh so sorry! what a pain in the butt! if you close this blog will you move to another provider and make a new one? LOVE your blog!!
ReplyDeleteOh, how awful! If you close this blog, I'm sure your readers will follow you to a new one. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for you but... just don't close the blog! It's one of the best I read, love-love-love it. Cheer up :XXX
ReplyDeleteNow that skeery! My hard drive crashed on my computer the week before last and I lost everything. It suuuucks, so I know how you feel. But keep calm and carry on!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry - I hit this on a couple other blogs where they lost older photos - the written parts are there but photos gone leaving those big old black things with the minus sign in them.
ReplyDeleteLeast you did not loose your subscribers...have a friend who blogs on WP and they lost her subscriber list! Then she they got her up and going never could re-establish her subscriber list so after 2 yrs of blogging on Lupus with paid companies/orgs following and paying her to write for them to cross post to - goners. don't give up - she got up and going again and yours could be way worse...
ReplyDeleteYou have copy of all your old photos...you can upload - keep going - and we will be here- back up always always everything you can even if it's to a non formatted program like taking your copy to a word processing program - better yet - save every page in an edit view version (not any link off to your web site) save the actual code to the HTML part of say MS WORD - then you always have all copy and copy of your photos too. Save is all to external HD or cloud drive off site.
So sorry to hear this happened :( Please don't shut down the blog. Though it will take time to get all your photos back you have put too much into this blog to let it go. The nail world wouldn't be the same without you!
ReplyDeleteDon't close down your site!! You have a beautiful blog, always love your pics and what you say about a polish is always spot on! Take a deep breath and take your time to get it all fixed up, it will be worth it!
ReplyDeleteDon't abandon us! I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI hate Google. Ef Google. Go to another site and start fresh. That might be the best in the long run for YOU.
Don't let the b*st*rds get you down. We love ya.
Aw! If you do go to another site (watermark or not) I'm sure we will all follow you there. I love your posts. DO you have to use Picasa? I have been using webshots.com for years to host my photos whenever I need to use some on the net.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your support everyone! I'm really quite touched and overwhelmed. It will take me a while to restore the photos, but I'll just take my time as many of you suggested! There really is no option other than to go into each post and reload the photos which is quite tedious...
ReplyDeleteAs for those of you wondering what happened or if you need to worry about your blogs, you shouldn't. I recently started using Google+ and was messing around with it. I wanted the photos loaded under the page account and not the personal one and Google didn't agree. In the process though, at least 6 months worth of photos went poof! I blame myself, although I'm mad at Google and still do not want the photos were it insists on loading them, although I have no choice. Luckily, I still have them saved on my hard drive (and I do back them up) so with time I will hopefully be able to restore the posts...
I will consider moving my blog to another provider later, but I'm staying here for now... wish me luck!
Anutka,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry this has happened! I've had my own grief with webpages and html that decides to go hinky on it's own.
In the future, if you move to Wordpress, you won't have to re-watermark all your photos. You should be able to do a re-direct on your blogger page that will instantly send people to your new site.
I agree with the others....just slowly re-add them....don't kill yourself. We all love your designs!
Ana
i'm so sorry, this is dreadful :(
ReplyDeleteNO, absolutely do not even THINK about quitting and closing the blog. It would be such a shame, I love your designs and I am p retty sure all the other girls feel the same too. We will wait until you upload them again, don't worry and take your time. And, as people are saying think about going to Wordpress, I didi that with my private blog and I redirected the blogspot site to my new one without any problems. Worked great actually. Kisses, I also have had trouble these weeks with my blog but you finally manage to win if you keep at it.
ReplyDeleteAww man that's so messed up :(
ReplyDelete@Ana, thank you! I'm hoping to move it eventually. Not sure if it will be wordpress or not! :)
ReplyDelete@nail crazy, yes, I'm so glad it is behind me now! Thank you!
@Koloralia, thank you so much for the support! I'm sticking around for now. Glad to have worked through the fiasco...
@Lacqerice, yes, don't argue with google was my lesson here! :)
