I wanted to make a quick tutorial of how I did the
rainbow stripes manicure using striping tape from challenge day 9. Here is a reminder of what it looks like...
| Supplies:
- Base and top coat (not pictured)
- Black nail polish (I used Wet n Wild Black Cream)
- Striping tape in rainbow colors (Red, Orange/Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet)
- Cuticle nippers to trim the striping tape
|
| Step 1:
- Cut each color of striping tape into pieces slightly wider than your nail |
| Step 1:
- Apply one layer of base coat, then
- Apply desired number of black polish coats (I used one coat here) |
| Step 1:
- Apply the green striping tape across the middle of the nail, dividing it into equal halves |
| Step 1:
- Leaving a space above the green tape, place a piece of yellow tape |
| Step 1:
- Repeat with the red tape by placing it above the yellow, leaving the same amount of space in between the colors. |
| Step 1:
- Place the blue tape below the green, closer to the cuticle |
| Step 1:
- Lastly, place the violet tape below the blue. |
| Step 1:
- Using cuticle nippers trim the extra tape as close to the nail as possible |
| Step 1:
- Apply a top coat to seal in the manicure and you are done! |
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. I'd love to know what you think or if you try this!

I love this design, so thank you very much for the tutorial! I would never have thought to use cuticle nippers, that's such a good idea!
ReplyDeleteI found them to be the best for getting really close to the nail :)
ReplyDeleteWhere can you get the striping tape?
ReplyDeleteThat looks fabulous! Excellent tutorial too!
ReplyDelete@Kimberly, I got my striping tape from Ebay. You can simply type "striping tape" into their search and you will get a lot of places who have it. For the specific one where I got it from, take a look at my Ebay Hauls post: http://wackylaki.blogspot.com/2011/08/ebay-hauls.html
ReplyDelete@Pam, thank you :)
How long did you tape stay on your nails? I find that my tape never lasts more than a day or two. :(
ReplyDeleteI change my manicures too frequently to tell how long it can last. The striping tape doesn't last very long for me... I tend to pick it off too..
ReplyDeleteHow long does your striping tape stay on usually? I've tried it a couple times and it always starts to peel off after a day :(
ReplyDelete@Kristine, unfortunately it starts to peel for me as well. I usually change my manicures frequently so I don't worry too much about it, but the corners do start to pick up and peel.
ReplyDeleteThese days I tend to use striping tape in this way... so it is not left in the final manicure... http://wackylaki.blogspot.com/2013/03/tutorial-tuesday-striping-tape-and.html
