OPI New York City Ballet

I may have mentioned once or twice (who am I kidding, at least a dozen times) how much I love sheer polishes. It will come as no surprise then to say how much I love the new OPI New York City Ballet collection. The collection contains five sheer jelly polishes and one glitter polish which can be layered over any of them. This may be the first collection where I can't pick favorites. I definitely foresee some french manicures in my future...

Each of the swatches are three thin coats with no top coat. Application was great on all of them. Even coverage with no streaking when using a light touch to apply. Take a look at these lovely colors...

Barre My Soul - A creamy, sheer jelly beige...

Pirouette My Whistle - A milky, slightly gray tinted jelly base with a mix of silver hex and micro- glitter. First coat was mostly micro-glitter. The hex glitter showed up more in the second and third coat. The tinted jelly base creates a lot of depth as layers build up. Looks best layered over other polishes since it is not a full coverage glitter.

Layered over (left to right):
Care to Danse? (lavender), My Pointe Exactly (gray), Pirouette My Whistle alone

Layered over (left to right):
Barre My Soul (beige), You Callin' Me a Lyre? (pink), Don't Touch My Tutu! (white)

I would love to know what you think of the New York City Ballet collection from OPI. Are you a fan of sheer polishes?

Thanks for looking!

  1. Way back, I used to wear sheer almost all the time but now rarely do. So often now I've got staining and it's really not attractive to see that showing through.

  2. I like nude colors, but not when there too sheer and show through.
    Great swatches!

  3. I like all these colours except of "my pointe exactly" (it makes nails look a little unhealthy)

  4. @KarenD, mine get stained too so it is hard to wear these sheers, especially on their own. Luckily my staining has almost completely grown out. Now I always use a base coat even for swatching. Also I have tried to get the staining out with a benzyl peroxide/baking soda mix and it helped a bit...

@Paulina, thank you! I plan on wearing these as french manis in the future so the nail line is covered...

@summer_breeze, I agree with you, when worn on it's own, a little too gray... I'm hoping it won't look like that in a french mani. I think it is so unique.

@Naty T, the glitter is definitely a fun one! :D
