Fashion Friday: Wet 'n Wild I Need a Refresh-Mint... Dress

I have decided that my fashion inspired manicures will make their appearance on Fashion Fridays. It won't be a weekly feature since the pressure of that will kill the fun for me, but when I make something that fits the theme, I will post it on a Friday. To start out the feature I want to show you a manicure inspired by a little summer dress that I stumbled upon on StyleSalad.com via Pinterest.

For the base of the manicure I used Wet 'n Wild I Need a Refresh-Mint. I have been trying to resist this polish even after seeing all the lovely swatches online, but I happened to see it on sale for 97 cents and just couldn't say no. The white pattern was added using Wet 'n Wild French White Creme. Instead of trying to describe how I made this, I'm working on a tutorial to show you. I'm so happy with how it turned out...

UPDATE: Tutorial for this manicure is now available here...

Wet 'n Wild I Need a Refresh-Mint is a pretty sea-foam cream. It is a recently released polish, since the redesign of the megalast bottles. I love the new bottle shape and size (13.5mL vs 9mL in the old bottles). The new brush however leaves something to be desired for me. It is pretty stiff so it leaves streaks during application and it is huge! It covered my pinkie in just one stroke and I happen to have fairly wide nail beds. Someone with narrow nail beds could have difficulty with this brush.

The formula itself was good. It dries slightly darker than original color. A problem I had with this polish is that it stains. I had to redo one of the nails and forgot to apply a base coat. That nail is now stained blue while all the other nails (that had a basecoat on) are fine. So make sure to use a good basecoat with this polish! This is two coats plus a top coat...

Just a few quick shots of the brush. As you can see, the stem of the brush is just a tiny bit smaller than the inner diameter of the bottle neck...

I would love to know what you think of the manicure... the color... the new brush! :D

Thanks for looking!

  1. Cool brush comparison! Borghese actually has one of my favorite brushes of all time. OH, and your design is AWESOME. It looks exactly like the dress!

  2. Love the mani and a nice mint can never be wrong in my book, haha! As for brushes, I like wide brushes - they make it much easier to paint my fairly wide nails, especially my thumb nail!

  3. I can't get over how much I love this mani! I can't wait to see how you got those lines so sharp. Fashion Friday is such a good idea. I think your new brush looks like it'll make application easier. I wish all my polish brushes had a rounded tip like that.

  4. I am so loving this mani! The colors and the design both are awesome! I'm sorry about hearing that someone is stealing your stuff. I am so oblivious that people could be doing that with mine and I'd never even know.. How did you find out?

  6. This look is so cute, I can't wait for the tutorial!

I haven't picked up any of these colors, mostly because of the brush issues (I can't stand the super wide stem).

  10. Gorgeous! I can't believe A) your patience to do these and B) how you get no leaking! I always get leaking with tape manicures :(
    Any tips?

I love the wide brushes... my nailbeds are quite wide so the wide soft brushes help :D

  14. Gorgeous mani! I bought this same polish and I love it! I was able to get it opaque with one coat and I like the big brush!

  15. I really like these colors but the thing that bugs me the most is the extra wid stem gets polish all over the lip of the bottle unless you're super careful about how you put the brush back into the bottle.
anywho, your mani is UBER FREAKING FANTASTIC!!

  18. I can not wait for the tutorial! I love this mani. I do love their brushes but then again I have big fingernails. I would hate to see someone with small nails attempt it because I can only imagine the mess it would make.

  19. I completely adore the mani and the dress! Do you think maybe you could do a tutorial because I can never get my head round tape manis like this and I'd love to be able to do them. I'd also love to know how you get your lines so neat and straight. x

  21. Thank you so much everyone! Your response is really overwhelming :)

I'm quite surprised to hear how many of you like the wide brush. I do like the wide brush (although wish it was a bit softer), but don't like the wide stem...

I'm hoping to put the tutorial up on Tuesday. To those of you that ask how I get the polish from leaking under the tape, I'll just say that no tape was involved ;)
