Genie, you're free!

Hi! Along with the rest of the world I'm in shock and saddened by the death of Robin Williams. I thought I would pay my tribute to this brilliant man and actor who was a part of so many of my favorite movies from Mrs. Doubtfire to Good Will Hunting and of course the voice of Genie in Aladdin. It is sad to learn that the man who sprinkled magic into our lives, put a smile on our faces and made us laugh suffered from severe depression that ended so tragically. Depression is often misunderstood by those who haven't experienced it. It can strike anyone regardless of their status in life, whether they have seemingly everything or nothing at all. Hopefully his death will raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention so that others don't have to suffer or feel they have nothing to live for and no one to turn to...

For the base of my manicure, I used piCutre pOlish Hope! The name and tagline "dream BIG live high!" couldn't be more applicable here. The rest of the nail art, I hand painted using acrylic paint and a detail brush. Although not perfect, I'm really happy with how everything turned out. For the little bit of magic dust at the hands of Genie, I sponged on some Zoya Muse.

I used this image that I found online as a guide for the manicure...

R.I.P Robin Williams! Genie, you're free!

The yellow ribbon on my pinkie nail above is for the yellow Suicide Prevention Awareness ribbon! It is OK to ask for help! Don't suffer in silence!

piCture pOlish Hope
A blackened blue jelly base filled with a scattered holographic shimmer. There are some blue hex glitters also peppered throughout which make it really unique. The glitter does settle to the bottom of the bottle, so if you want lots of it on your nails, I suggest storing this one upside down (which I haven't been doing). I didn't do any glitter fishing and the few bits of it I got on my nails was just right for me. Two coats provides full coverage. The color is just gorgeous. I did use a top coat for these swatches...

  1. I'm so sad. For me, Robin Williams was the simple and sweet alien Mork, from tv serie Mork&Mindy. I was SO sorry for him. A suicide is a person who needs HELP. And I'm speechless seein' that NOW people show they love to Robin. If only he could have know before...

  2. I am not sure if there has been another celebrity death that has affected more than Robin's. A truly sad day. I love your tribute and I think we as a whole need to recognize the realness that is depression.

  4. Thank you for these. Such a beautiful mani, and a wonderful tribute to Robin Williams. His death makes my heart hurt. Depression really doesn't care who it grabs onto and sinks it's claws into. Robin Williams suffered for so long, he tried to get help, but sometimes it is so overwhelming that you aren't thinking correctly. He will be missed. A very bright star has gone from us but is now lighting the sky.
