Foiled Snake!

Last week Nail It! Magazine posted a nail art contest with the challenge to create a manicure inspired by their mood board. I thought I would take a stab at it. It seemed like fun and what have I got to loose, right? For the manicure I was inspired by a metallic snake/lizzard print outfit that is part of that mood bard...

It has been a long time since I've tried using foils mostly because I have not had much luck getting them to fully transfer and then there is that pesky ruined by topcoats issue. While I still haven't found a good top coat to use with the foils, I did pick up a trick on how to transfer them completely from this video tutorial and I was itching to try it out...

The transferring tutorial worked like a charm. I got the whole nail covered in foil just as I wanted. After transferring the foil onto my nails, I stamped over it using Essence Icy Princess (a silver) and Winstonia plate W101. I then stamped using Wet 'n Wild Black Creme and Pueen plate Pueen14...

I really love how it turned out in the end. I wasn't so sure about it before all the stamping because as I said, I still have issues with the foil wrinkling as soon as I add the top coat. Luckily the stamping covered it all up nicely...

Ok, I debated if I should this or not because it is not pretty, but here is just the foil before the stamping. You can see just how wrinkly it is, not to mention the middle of my pinkie nail which I stabbed with another nail and took out part of the foil. I'm such a klutz at times. Even though the stamping covered up all these flaws very nicely, I would still love to figure out a good top coat for foils. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears!

Until next time! Thanks for looking!
